3rd annual Writing contest?      04.07.2012 13:03:35 --- 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Cheerio folks,

I'm rather new but reading wildly across this board I found that two years ago a player named Droch initiated a writing contest. Last year another player named Dietrich rechovered its remains and I must say I'm really thrilled by the great submissions made in those two editions.

As it happens another year and a tad bit more is round and I had hoped there might be some folks who'd like to give this great concept the honour to revive it?

Anyone up for some Poetry and Prose?

If I am to join myself we have 3...that are too few I fear. However we could if you like have a round of warming up by setting a task and contributing an entry without judging it for the beginning.

I could give it a go, although I suppose I should ask whether we are talking about IC writing or just general?

I am quite busy with my own RP threads right now.

But I have subjects to suggest to you:

Start a thread in the RP knight's board. If lots of people from different nations want to participate, it will either have to be NPCs or letters. That is e. g. a couple of NPCs sit by a fireside telling tales. Or else make one knight the recipient of your tale and write letters, saying that you heard that the knight was collecting stories and you had one more for his collection - that way you can do without NPCs.

1. Tales about heroic battles in the distant past. The most exciting tale wins the prize.

or

2. Amusing and funny anecdotes about what you got up to as a young knight or squire.

or

3. ???

Like I said, I am busy with my own threads, but would be quite willing to join in voting on the best effort produced.

P.S. Very impressive RP writing start Caddoc O`Fearghail, I'll have to read the rest, when I find some more time this evening perhaps.

In the past contests it has been writing in general, and specifically NOT related to KH characters (whether PCs or NPCs) nor indeed to the KH world.

Well, I have here the most wonderful poem -

The Bait

Come live with me, and be my love,
And we will some new pleasures prove
Of golden sands, and crystal brooks,
With silken lines, and silver hooks.
...

For thee, thou need'st no such deceit,
For thou thyself art thine own bait:
That fish, that is not catch'd thereby,
Alas, is wiser far than I.

If it is unrelated to the game - how will you know who wrote it?

My suggested subjects - or other subjects - tales told by the fireside or tales sent to a knight who wants to collect them - would merely have to be somewhat medieval - or older.

Since we are on KH, I assume most people have a strong interest in history. I don't necessarily want to read tales on any genre. I like reading, but I don't read everything.

Poem author John Donne

Most if not all of the past contributions were either timeless or of the era, and some were more directly related to KH, either by direction (a story concerning one's fief) or choice (someone writing of his/her KH love*)

So I think we may find something to interest you...

Certainly the writing should be original; one would look a right pillock posting something written by someone else, only to later be unmasked...

*What I said previously was wrong. The point I was trying to make was that the aggressive kind of character attack we have in RP was avoided...

The character of a contest was better reflected Off-Topic than it would have been in RP. However if we are only a small group of devoted writers we might as well create a surrounding RP for it. I won't insist on judging things if it is more fun for everyone making it a great RP. There sure is a lot of inspiration to be found in the game's world.

Upon the matter of plagiatism. We had the tasks specified rather clearly so it would be hard to find a matching solution. Also why would one participate with other's work in a contest that gets its appeal from writing own things. I never found need to distrust those splendid folks here such Gentlemen and Justices of Peace they are.

For you reference. Those are the past contest's entries. Most of them are great.

Original contest: http://knights-honor.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,181/func,view/id,32013/catid,48/limit,10/limitstart,0/
Round 2 http://knights-honor.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,181/func,view/id,33033/catid,48/

And so on. Just to get you an idea.
