Word had gotten around quickly that Thayet was marrying Afonso, Knight of Castile. He had caught her eye after Rodrigo left, she figured he did not like the new change in crowning. Her newest chancellor Magnus has caught her eye once before, but it was best to let him become chancellor and be unwed to her. Afonso was handsome, tall and graceful, but yet firm and brave.
He had been attracted to her all since he came to Castile, but she held off as to see if he was a good knight or a traitor, and that he wasn’t. He was kind hearted, good with her daughter Rose, and good with his horse. He never asked too much of anyone, and always offered knights help. He was also gentle with the local poor peasants, and always offered them some kind of food or aid. She discussed of him with her ladies, and they agreed he’d be a suitable husband and father.
Castile need a brave man to aid its Queen, and Afonso was the right choice. Thayet looked him in the eyes that night, “I hold more love for you in my heart than I have for anymore, I felt after Symon left, I could love no one, but it seems that shell has cracked.” Afonso kissed her hand, “My Queen, I will not hurt you as he did, I will not leave as he did, I will not betray as he did, and I will love more than he.” Thayet had offered him a cup of cool wine, which he accepted eagerly. They sat on the balcony of the large castle, Thayet in his arms, her ladies at her side.
This felt right to her, and that was all that mattered
