A short silence followed the sudden disappearance of the Guard. Men were looking each other somehow puzzled, but careful at any grimace on the face of the Commander which to hint them about where to or what to think. The occasion for games of chance was never to be missed, and when the companionship comes from foreign troops, the more the fun to be expected. Not to mention that the opportunity of learning new words, of that sort so old as the existence of speech on earth. Because always in matters like that new inventions and details appear, and what a better chance for an exchange of experience but while sharing a generous bottle.
As the delegation was already starting daydreaming at the prospect, Alexandros, recovering from his own thoughts, discretely approached the Commander, still thoughtful:
If the Commander allows me, we are on a highly diplomatic mission here. Maybe the Commander will ponder how beneficial would be for our Order if our men would pluck the guards at dice, and empty the cellars of Signor Luigi, in one night, too. Humbly I'd suggest sending a very small party, under strict orders to act normal, you know, just to honor the invitation, while the Commander enjoys the hospitality of the guesthouse. I shall go attend Vesper and return to the Palace, waiting for someone from the chancellery to talk to me.
And under such auspices the young man saluted the assembly, leaving the matters of the troops into the very capable hands of the Commander, and headed for the impressive cathedral dominating the town.
