Czesiek, the Royal Polish Jester      19.10.2011 16:43:53 --- 7 Months ago
Another letter arrived at King Maria's encampment in Orawa. As it was signed with Wolfrick's of Croatia seal, it was immedietely passed to the head of Ministry of Unimportant Matters - to Czesiek the Jester. He read the message quietly, but those in direct vicinity could have heard the words from the letter:

QUOTE:
Hello Kinqueen of Poland, how are you?
How your kINGDOM goes? If you need any help, let me talk with your court jester and we will settle everything

Grey-haired Czesiek took his quill, as he was once an educated man - he possesed the basics of reading and writing. He wrote a short reply, sealed it with a stamp made out of a carrot and sent it to Croatian camp in Brno. The message, which was addressed to Wolfrick, arrived soon with the Croatian messanger.

QUOTE:
To Wolfrick of Croatia,
Dear sir, your message have indeed reached my ministry. Unfortunately it could have not been passed to Her Majesty Maria Leszczynska, the King of Poland, as it's just a childish blablablabber. Let me ask you a puzzle: What is it: There is two of them. They have both wear white and red checkers and they both talk to important people, who don't give a crap about them. What is it, Wolfrick?

With regards
Czesiek the Royal Jester, Ministry of Unimportant Matters
Signed and Sealed*

(*seal has an odd, unregular shape, in the middle, there's something that looks something like a jester's hat? But it's too unclear to be sure)

After sending the messanger back, Czesiek started crunching his stamp.

Being around the King's camp in Orawa, Czesiek was summoned tolisten to Her Majesty. The King greeted him, with a look of pity and disgust, seeing that his white and red checkered tunic was all dirty with something that could be... a carrot juice? Nevertheless she gave him a short instruction on whom should he address and on what case and sent him out, ordering to clean this mess of his clothes as soon as he sends the letter back with the Pechenegian messenger.

Czesiek went to his small tent, set a candle alight and started writing.

QUOTE:
To Papikaze of Kyoto, Chancellor and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Pechenegs,

Dear Sir, I have been instructed by my King to give you a couple of instructions on the art of etiquette, so you will manage better in your seat of the Foreign Minister.
First of all, in civilized Europe, we do not mix together the titles of "Lady" and "King". The art of court etiquette says that you either use all of the titles of the person you are addressing to, or the one highest in the hierarchy of the titles of one person. In this case, I will present you with an example of mine.

The name given to my by my father was Czesiek. I am of a noble birth, and indeed when I was a young lad I was even knighted, which gives me the right to use the title of "Sir". Later on, when I suffered from a serious wound in the war with Moscow, almost fourty years ago, and still being the youngest of my siblings, I was offered to serve as an advisor to some nobles in the royal court. Later on, thanks to Sir Gniewomir, the royal protecor whom I made an awful prank, I was promoted to be a Royal Jester. Later on, thanks to Wolfrick of Croatia, I was promoted to be a head of the Ministry of Unimportant Matters. As my older siblings unfortunately died out of desease or war, and my father was dead already when our king was Wladyslaw the Pious, I have inherited our family fief of Stare Boby. So, if someone would address me, he or she should - according to the etiquette - use the following phrases:
"To Czesiek, The Minister of Unimportant Matters" - using the most important title, or...
"To Sir Czesiek, Minister of Unimportant Matters and the Royal Jester, landowner of Stare Boby"

To sum up, when addressing, for example, my King, you should use on the following examples:
"To King Maria Leszczynska of Poland", or the shorter version "To King Maria Leszczynska", or...
"To King Maria Leszczynska of Poland, Sovereign of Bohemia, ruler of whole Regnum Poloniae and west slavs, Duchess of Kaliskie, Orawa, Galicja, Lubelska, Zakarpatskaja, Lusatia, Kaszuby, Beskidy, BrnoWielkopolska, Oesterreich, Malopolska, Stetinum, Tatry, Pomorran, Polesie, Slask, Javorniky, Zagorodje, Sudety, Mazowsze, Lubuskie, Moravia, Roztocze, Podolia, Gdansk, Podlasie and Pomerania, Lady of Wladyslawow."

Nota bene! Do not mix the titles of "Lady" and "King" - it is a mistake commited by people lacking knowledge of court etiquette.

I hope this short instruction will allow you to do better at your current position.

With kind regards,
Czesiek, the Minister of Unimportant Matters

Czesiek was once again summoned to the presence of King Maria. On his way, he met the same Croatian messanger that brang the letter from Wolfrick. "Dobra večer", said the Jester and got the same reply from the Croats' scout. When he was to enter King's tent, he was stopped by one of her protectors. "Her Majesty want's you to deal with that. At the moment the King is occupied with war plans. Take it and leave.". Czesiek nodded and returned to his place, when he opened a letter from king Borna himself. He took a nice piece of parchement and wrote a reply.

QUOTE:
To His Majesty, King Borna of Croatia,

Your Highness, I am most sorry to inform you, that your letter was forwarded to the Ministry of Unimportant Matters and from now on all correspondence from Your Highness will need my ministry's approval to be handed to King Maria herself.

If Your Majesty does not mind, I will inform you, that it is right of every country in Europe to create their own foreign policy towards other nations and groups. This is why, my honorable King Maria decided to create the No-Mercenary Declaration. It is Her Majesty's right to ignore mercenary contracts, as nobody have asked Her of Her opinion during the inventing of this mysterious "mercenaries code" nobody have ever seen. In my own opinion it was very brave and wise of my King to state Her thoughts about sellsword knights with the rest of the world. I cannot see any reason why King Maria, as you claim, "have no right to do this". Every monarch in our, lately dark, Europe have the right to establish such declarations. Maybe you should read it once again or ask an interpreter to have it explained to you?

As I am sure your knight Wolfrick have enjoyed my last puzzle, here is one for Your Majesty: There is three of them. They all wear white and red checkers and they all demand things from important people, while they are just rejects, dependant from their principals. What is it, Your Highness?

With kind regards, always helpful,
Czesiek the Royal Jester, Ministry of Unimportant Matters

Post Scriptum:
Your Majesty is not the one who declared the war, it was King Maria, as far as I can remember. I am also pleased that Your Highness feels so well.

After writing this letter, Czesiek realised he ate his last stamp, so he sealed the letter without applying any other sign.
