Sigurd Haakonsson announced the opening of the tourney. He could see many nobelties from different nations. In particular he saluted Sharkus Kobrietis, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, that had arrived with many of his dukes. Also many Polish counts, which he already had met at the turney in Sweden, had arrived. He missed some of his Swedish and Danish friends but it was a troublesome period.

A throne had been built at the castle side of the arena where the former Thane of Norway, Ragnar Lodbrok took place. It was a turney in his honour, in honour of a real norseman.

Sigurd was a happy and proud man. To the surprise of the more experienced knights he had managed to win the melee. Nobody could explain how it happened, and none of the knights dared to suggest to the Norwegian thane that he had been lucky.
