From the walls of the City, a great battle between ships under Khazar and Polish flags was visible. A large crowd had gathered to watch the affray, and cheered as each blow was struck. The Khazars had numbers on their side, and thus eventually had the victory.

The Eparch of the City was watching from a tower: "Send out boats, so that our Polish friends don't have to swim to shore.
