What's going on in England      18.09.2011 17:52:57 --- 3 Years, 2 Months ago
There had been a great fire in London. A house had caught fire in the poor quarter, then the blaze spread to the neighbouring houses. After that the whole quarter, built of wood and thatched with straw, had gone up like a torch. And it had not stopped there.

Bella, like everyone else, had joined a bucket brigade and they had soaked the roofs of the knight's quarters in London with water to prevent any stray sparks from setting these buildings on fire, too. Then they had hurried to the royal palace. They had had to tear down several wooden buildings standing too close to palace, to prevent sparks, but their efforts had borne fruit – the palace had been spared.

Now the labourers and home owners in London had to begin the work of rebuilding, while Bella returned to her knightly training.

Times are quiet in my fiefdom at the moment. My knight is training and a new household is being built.

Bella stood on the wall of the city of London and watched a messenger ride in on a dusty and weary horse. Obviously he had traveled a great distance and from his livery he must be a messenger from one of the English armies.

But which one? The one in the north that had marched to Scotland in aid of the Scottish king? Or the one currently on campaign on the continent?

Bella hurried down to the castle to hear the news.

The news about a great fire in London reach Elizabeth in Edinburgh castle:

"People says the knights were very braves fighting with the flames in the attempt to keep the fire at bay, especially one named Bella. They manage to secure the palace, Your Highness."

Oh, my dear Bella! I will thank you all, but a special thanks to her when I return. Announce my brother we are leaving tomorrow early in the morning, so I will say good bye to him tonight.
I could not wait to see with my own eyes the proportions of the destruction.

The day had seemed to last forever - and collecting a spectacular set of bruises in her training duel against Alice de Burley had not helped Bella's mood.

But now finally - Bella carefully stepped into the hot tub waiting for her, settled back and blissfully closed her eyes - she could relax.

The peaceful days in the monastery of his younger days was almost forgotten. James is now a soldier, a knight in the Queen's service.
Training, march, camp; the coordinates of his new life. James could not complain, even he miss sometimes the company of the monks who raised him. But first come the duty for England and honor father's name.

Nothing compares with "For Queen and Country! For England!" of the knights before charging was the last thought of James before fall asleep.

Bella read the letter her estate manager had written to her: "Your fiefdom, indeed, the whole shire of Gloucester has been suffering from draught for weeks now. We have tried carrying water to the dry fields, but it is no use, the fields are too large and we are too few. If we do not get rain soon, the farming in the whole shire will be ruined."

Blast - Bella thought and went off to find out where the Earl of Gloucester was and to enquire what measures the neighbouring fiefdoms were taking.

Rumors trickled in to England of nations cast into chaos, abandoned and thrown to the wolves by their leaders.

"Good grief", Bella thought, "chivalry must verily be dead in some parts of the world."

Never before had she truly appreciated the commitment and loyalty of her own nation's leaders, the gracious Queen Elizabeth de Loraine of England and James, Chancellor of England, to their home soil, which she had so far taken for granted. Bella felt a sudden gratitude for some of the defensive measures taken by her nation. Never again would she consider such precautions paranoid - it seemed these unstable times truly called for extraordinary measures.

Bella determined that from now on she would remember to include her wishes for the continuation of England's stable and true government and the health and long life of England's Queen, who returned her subject's loyalty in full measure, in her prayers.

On the twelve days of Christmas there was much feasting and merrymaking among the English knights.

There was wassailing and carolling, many peasants even serenaded the health of the orchards, to insure a good harvest in the next year, singing “Wassaile the trees, that they may beare / You many a Plum and many a Peare: / For more or lesse fruits they will bring, / As you do give them Wassailing.”

Bella determined to make the most of the celebrations and went off to see what further entertainments were being offered.

The army participating in Saxony defense was back just in time for winter holidays. While having a break from the rigors of war, English knights took their time to celebrate with families.
Unfortunately the Queen Elizabeth decide to visit her brother and the joy was not complete without Her royal presence.
News about agitators and people sharpen their swords while they just sign the peace treaty reach London, but James was too drunk to give them importance.

It's Holiday, even for the Chancellor.. I had enough of fights and treaties, 3 of them that I had to study and interpret their ambiguous ways.

In a moment of lucidity James remember not everybody abide to England's Honor and Pride, not everybody keep their word and promises as England always did.

He raise the mug with english pride: God Save the Queen! For England!
