For several years now, missionaries from across the Orthodox world had been traveling to Kiev. Ignoring the Polish nobles then in charge of the nation, they instead engaged with the native Kievians.
And now, a miracle sent by God came to the attention of Smelgar, Protosebastos of the Romans: the Polish nobles had returned to their ancestral lands, and a native Kievian administration had emerged, and had embraced the Orthodox faith.
