The choir of the Great Church started this glorious day in a tumultuous song, which filled the hearts of the crowd attending with a sense of strenght and hope. It was as if the doors of heavens have opened and the angels came among mortals on a golden stairs, singing their silver trumpets to the very essence of each.

Te Deum laudamus:
te Dominum confitemur.
Te aeternum Patrem
omnis terra veneratur.

The final ceremony of installing the Patriarch was much smaller, by comparison of the time it took, to the rest. Soon after the Te Deum was finished, it was read the document of the Synod, and Theodossios was given the insignia of his office: the staff with its serpents around the crossed globe, the mitre, the engolpion, and the cope. The speeches of the Patriarchs were now due, and the people were eagerly waiting the finale of this strange turn of events started so long ago.

And now it was done. Macarias felt relief. As he sat in his chair a deacon approached, bearing a letter.

Macarias read, stood, strode to the altar, and spoke.

"My friends, this is a day of joy. Tomorrow the work will begin, but today we celebrate, and I shall not speak for long. Some few days ago I informed His Majesty of the course of events, and I have here a letter from him, which he has written to his fellow Kings, I now read it in full:"

QUOTE:

His Imperial Majesty Ljudislav, Car of All Serbs and Magyars, Ban of Bosnia, Lord of Epirus and Thessaly
His Majesty Avitohol, Tsar of the Bulgarians
His Majesty Big Stan, King of Pechenegs
Her Majesty Dorenn de Almhuin, Khagani of the Khazars
Her Majesty Maria Leszczynska, King of Poland
His Majesty Masterpera, Kiraly of the Hungarians
His Grace Avis von Chesire, Grand Duke of Rostov
His Highness Appo, Prince of Smolensk
Brother Hyrkan de Silcross, Grandmaster of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon
Brother Hugh of Montfort, Grandmaster of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem

My Brothers in the Orthodox Faith, and fellow Christians of the East:

I have news from the City of Constantinople: the long wait is over and a new guide now sits in the Seat of St Andrew. Theodossios the Roman is now enthroned as the Ecumenical Patriarch. I am in the East, and now very old, and it is unlikely that I shall see the City again in this world. Nevertheless I can now go to the Lord confident that the Orthodox Church is now made whole to face the infidel threat: just as my predecessor Theodossios the Younger built the walls that guard our City, so too will Theodossios the Patriarch be the sure and steady guardian of that which is most precious upon the earth; namely the Church as the Bride of Christ.

Blessed be his All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Theodossios, the first of that name.

I have the Honour to Remain, Your Most Humble and Obedient Servant,
Smelgar, Protosebastos of the Romans in the Throne of Constantine

"There is sadness here: the Protosebastos leaves us soon, and will not return to this his City, but there is great joy also, for at the end of his reign that task which so long eluded him and us is finally accomplished.

To God be the Glory, Amen"

Now Theodossios was made Ecumenical Patriarch. His brother Macarias, now his junior had received a letter from the Serbian Emperor, the first (no doubt of many) addressed to the Ecumenical Patriarch, which he now handed to him.

QUOTE:

To his All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Theodossios

I just received glorious news from brother Smelgar about the will of God to bless your efforts of serving Him. Unfortunately I too wont be able to visit Constantinople as I'm on the fields away from my homeland and dying your holiness.
Bless me father, His obedient servant, bless my family and my people whom I try my best to lead to the right path.

I've given already given orders of building monasteries in every Shire of this Heavenly Empire as my endowment to the Church.

Finally the Ecumenical Patriarchate was getting back on its feet. Macarias had intended to accompany his brother Patriarchs on their mission, but then a letter arrived from the East. Suddenly he knew he must again journey to the West; his last journey, most likely, but perhaps it would turn out to be his most important.

"There is no reply from patriarch Theodossios nor from patriarch Macarias," - said Artemije

"Send the same latter to them again," - response Nikanor.

"As you wish Your Beatitude," - said Artemije.
