Norway and the "Polish war"      27.07.2010 17:38:44 --- 1 Year, 6 Months ago
QUOTE:

Alrik vom Greifenstein, King of Saxony
Tagold, Chancellor of Saxony, Minister of War
Wikerus von Holstein, Chancellor of Saxony

Your Highnesses,

The Polish people has suffered enough and now the Norwegian knights stand at the Saxony boarder. As the Saxony knights, the Norwegian knights are true warriors and our morale is high as long as we have shires to plunder. But this war has also had its disappointments. The Irish was running away as squeaking pigs and left a small Saxony army to fight an overwhelming power. In another "battle" with the Irish, the last man standing on their side was their pregnant queen. It is not the kind of battles we are looking for, and we are also tired of fighting other nation's wars.

We do not want a peace treaty and we do not expect a peace treaty, but if you reach an agreement with your neighbours, the Polish king and the Danish king and end your hostile activities, we will respect that and leave Saxony territory. If you have other goals than to plunder Poland, you can perhaps explain these.

Respectfully,
Sigurd Haakonsson
Thane of Norway

"May this letter be sent to Saxony, Denmark, Sweden and Norway", said King Wladyslaw. "Be sure to attach a proper map to every copy."

QUOTE:
Honourable Wikerus of Holstein, Chancellor of the Interior of Saxony, Official representative of the King Alrik,

Your proposal of truce have reached us, and we agree to most of your terms. While reading our terms, please, familiarize yourself with the map attached to this document.

1) War compensations
1.1) No war compensations in silver will be provided to any of sides.

2) The ceasefire is valid for two years since signing the treaty by both sides.

3) Land claims
3.1) Saxony's claims to Bremen, Altmark, Nordmark, Brandenburg and Thuringen are accepted by the Kingdom of Poland
3.2) Poland's claims to Stetinum, Lusatia and the Prussian lands are accepted by the Kingdom of Saxony, as well as other Polish pre-war lands.
3.3) Denmark's claims to Hamburg and Pomorran are accepted by the Kingdom of Saxony
3.4) All lands that are not in possesion of the claim owners, should be left free, so the claimant could reconquer it.

With best regards,
Wladyslaw Leszczynski, King of Poland

I am speaking in the word of our Grand Duke Klasikas Kobrietis as his temporary respresentative for the time he returns from his Royal holiday.

We agree and support Wladyslaw Leszczynski terms with one exception:

* Prussian shire called Litauen is the land of our ancestors (even the name of our whole country - Lithuania - stems from it), therefore we claim that shire as our own.

Alrik received the messages, finding a short smile on his old face for it.

QUOTE:
Dear Sigurd Haakonson, Konungr of Norway,

I believe you misunderstood the aim of the holy alliance. It was not to blame your pagan people, it was to blame the pagans hidden under a cloak calling themselfs catholic.

I am certain you remember the first war between our nations, a war between noblemen of equal strength, only decided by the number your allied forces moved to battle-field.

Now, after these great battles, after this good and blessed war, the polish showed up their true face, being only hungry for more land, more influence wherever possible, and making a bad decision to choose the Prussians first.

Dietrich den Uxi and the Lithuanian forces follow them like dogs, thats making the war I like it, and I am certain you will agree, hard.

It is in your decision if you want to be a noble warrior of the North, or a dog barking for a sausage.

Kind regards
Alrik vom Greifenstein
First Marshall of the Sacrum Romanum Imperium
King of Saxony

QUOTE:
Dear King of Poland, Wladyslaw Leszczynski.

Your conditions under §3 are not acceptable to the Sacrum Romanum Imperium.

God Blessed you with much space to expand to the east and south-east. You don't need the saxon claim at Lusatia. Also Hamburg will not be set free again.

And some personal words on you Wladyslaw,

haven't you overtaken power by a mistake done by your ancesstor? Do you still not see you making a mistake overwhelming loyal and true in faith?
You call yourself being with Christ... but who is fighting with you? Christian Nations? Or Pagans?

If there would be smallest in you being a true King of a catholic nation you would see your failure escaping in a monastry, you have broken down the eternal truth of the Lord.

Rescue your soul before it is too late.

Gregory I, King of England

Your highness

My sincere apologies for that my army is entering the land of a peaceful and honourable people. We simply did not find any other solution to a difficult dilemma, but it was with deep regret that this step was taken. It also brings me sadness that we hurt the feelings of the wisest and most glorious king of our times.

We therefore offer 800 silver to rebuild Holland to be payed after what we refer to as the "Polish war" has ended. The only small favour we request in return is that England refrain from retaliations by not attacking any of the nations involved in this war.

Sincerely,

Sigurd Haakonsson,
Thane of Norway

Noble and Proud Viking Sigurd Haakonsson,
Thane of Norway

A simple request of Free Passage would be avoided such transgression.

Still, as Viking myself, I fully understand is not your custom to ask for a free passage, only take what you need without asking.
Your message is enough, no need of money compensations, who would be exactly 1150 only the buildings,
without counting the resources stolen and the discomfort of our knights losing their shires or the losses for our treasury.

About us, maybe you notice so far we mind our own business out of the conflict without asking to be payed or being attacked.
If you think beating someone to death and throwing some silvers next to his bloodied body can convince that person about something,
we will reflect at your wise words.

May Oden protect you.

Your highness

Thank you for your wise letter. You are correct, to ask about permission to pass through your land never crossed our minds.

I apologize for offering silver as compensation, but I am sure we can find a suitable compensation after the war has ended. I do not want to insult you again but I can offer you one of my finest fjordland horses. But let our chancellors handle this issue with discretion. It is also reassuring that you stay neutral in what we refer to as the "Polish war". My norsemen are very excited about the war and the morale will be high as long there are shires to plunder. As you know as a viking, battles are the way into Valhall.

Respectfully,

Sigurd Haakonsson,
Thane of Norway

We have our own wars to fight!
What have to to England with Poland? We are not even close, to dispute lands or have petty frontier conflicts.
Maybe you was informed that recently we was Poland guests and as long as they stay in their lands and don't attack other people lands, especially England allied lands, they have nothing to fear from our side.
We are not quite sure what Your Highness refer to as the "Polish war".
For us the "Polish war" means, the "Polish war", the attacks on the Polish lands. As long as they stay neutral, not ally with the enemies of my nation or the enemies of our allies, I see no reason why we should fight with them.

Your warriors morale will be up to the skies if you tell them there are even more shires to plunder than Holland. In case you didn't notice, just next to Holland, there are Flandern, Picardie, Artois and Normandie.
I will be very happy to contribute to the Norsemen morale, but I think they will find the way to Walhall by fighting with real knights, not with peasants, women and children. Still I left long ago my father's lands, maybe the custom change it and the mighty Vikings soften. I understand too much booze and women can transform the most powerful warriors in cowards.

May Oden protect you.

It was a hectic day for Sigurd, he also received a letter from the King of Saxony. No time to waste, and he swiftly wrote a reply:

QUOTE:

Alrik vom Greifenstein, King of Saxony

Your Highness,

Thank you for your letter. It seems like the way we think about you are the same as you think about us.

We can understand that their are some disagreements between Saxony and Poland, and even between Saxony and Denmark, and they would pass with little interest from our side. The intervention by Ireland, a country striving for world domination, in a conflict not related to them required a reply, and we are only happy to let our viking axes speak.

Now you have an army in Sweden making them suffer, and we have an army in Europe. This can easily be resolved by that we give your army free passage to a Norwegian port of your choice and we do not attack any Saxony shires during the rest of what we refer to as the "Polish war". That is not an entire solution, but it could be a first step towards a better future.

Sincerely,
Sigurd Haakonsson
Thane of Norway
