The Pechenegs were nomads - warrior nomads - no doubt about that.
Haunted by the numerous enemies armies of the Order of the Temple and Byzantium
they zigzagged through the orient.
Finally they were driven to one of the pearls, the ONE CITY for three religions, target and goal for every crusader.
It was the most important task of the Templars to protect Jerusalem and now they failed protecting it from the Pechenegs, the one nation they had been fighting so mercyless for the last two years or more, together with mighty allies.
It had been a little bit like the fight of David versus Goliath, 11.000 Pechenegs versus Poland, Byzantium and the Templars. The King captured and his wife escaped from the dungeons of Poland, Papikaze took responsibility to lead the brave knights left against the superior numbers of their foes, fighting a fight no one would win but knowing, every lost shire would be like a stitch with a needle for the enemies.
They hadn't begun the fight but neither they would finish it. One day the enemies would withdraw their troops and would it only be because of the boring sight of swamp and steppe around the northern coast of the Black Sea.
Too long the war had still lasted, too long to sign any contract, too long to give any guarantee for peace. Too long now the former Kasanians, though not responsibly for any harm done by the Pechenegs before they had decided to move there, had to surrender their fiefs. Too much damage had been done to simply forget it.
Now Papikaze had got a message from the castle, that foreign troops had stopped by, this time obviously friendly and it was a pretty fine message.
Papikaze looked down from the walls of Jerusalem, barely being able to understand, what his so tired fellow knights had done here. They had conquered Jerusalem, the holy city, the treasure of every pilgrim of Christian, Muslim or Jewish origin.
Suddenly he knew, what to do.
He took quill, ink and paper and wrote a message:
QUOTE:
"To every knight of every nation,
today the oppressed nation of the Pechenegs proudly wants to let you know that despite the fact the Templars are hunting us all across the orient we have been able to conquer Jerusalem and free it from the Christian protectionism of Byzantium. We invite every Knight of every belief and confession to walk the path of the pilgrims to Jerusalem. As long as we can hold it we guarantee free access for everyone to the holy places here and in the surrounding.
We do respect human life as the highest religion and we can't see why it shouldn't be possible for everyone to pray at the holy church of birth, at the temple or the other holy places.
And if it should happen that no longer we can hold Jerusalem against our numerous foes we want to call every brave knight with freedom in his soul to defend the free access to the holy places here for everyone by supporting our idea in attacking every protectionistic owner here at Jerusalem. This is not a place for only one religion but for all of them.
Feel free to follow our invitation
Papikaze of Kyoto
Chancellor and foreign minister of the Pechenegs"
Then he gave this message to one of his confidents and instructed him to bring it to the writers guild, let it translate into any known language und copy it to distribute it all over the known earth and beyond.
