Byzantium = An ancient greek city founded by colonists from Megara in 667 BC named after their King Byzas. Byzantium is a latinization of Byzantion.

While the Eastern Roman Empire existed it was not known as Byzantium or the Byzantine Empire. It was known simply as the Roman Empire (Greek: Basileia Rhomaion) or Romania (Greek: Rhomanía) to both its inhabitants and neighbors, as it was a direct continuation of the ancient Rome.

The Eastern Roman Empire was distinguished from ancient Rome in modern times. To put it simply, "Byzantium" does not exist in a direct representation of the literal greek half of the Roman Empire insofar as the people living at that time were concerned.

For RP purposes I suggest the roleplayers begin to distinguish accordingly.

Or not.

Also of note is the link I provided which contains the Imperium history as well as the names with their proper greek letters.

Make note of the first section in the link I provided which says; "The designation of the Empire as Byzantine began in Western Europe in 1557, when German historian Hieronymus Wolf published his work Corpus Historiæ Byzantinæ"

(I could not edit my post anymore so I replied)

There are a number of things that could be corrected regarding the Roman Empire.

Current, the nations pages says: "Byzantium - The Roman Empire", it could of course say simply "The Roman Empire". I always use "The Roman Empire" in RP.

The Castle shire is currently called "Byzanz", but should be "Constantinople". I have taken to referring to it as "The City" in RP

The Emperor's title is currently "Protosebastos", but "Basileus" would be better, and there is some suggestion that it should still be "Basileus" rather than "Basilissa" in the event of a female Empress. The full title is "basileus Rhomaíōn": Emperor of the Romans

Protoasekreta for a female chancellor appears to be an invention of RH/KH; perhaps Protoasekretissa is more correct (but still invented). Megas Logothetes (Logotheta/Logothetissa) might be better.

I have enjoyed your RP.
I was really only posting for people writing letters to the Imperium in their RP.
Sorry if I spoke out of turn.

I wasn't criticizing anyone or really proposing a change, just noting a few thing that could be changed. But they have low priority and the rate at which changes are made is tending towards glacial if not tectonic.

I must confess that I did it on purpose saying all the time "Byzantium" instead "Roman Empire".
