Thats the point Ljudi, e.g. Finnland wasn't really catholic at that time, but I am able to play it catholic since we are not "replaying" history, we are making history on our own

That's correct, but because it was pagan there a lot of people living in your Kingdom who still worship pagan Gods. RP or not, they can't all cross to Christians "over night" as decades or even centuries need to pass

If we are playing HISTORICAL BASED RP, lets play it like that and not fantasy...

If they can write that they found coffee in Africa (even though it isn't historically time for it), I can say I found about gunpowder somewhere in the Middle East and start building guns...

Jessica vel Alrik: Of course you are right, not every person in the medieval lords should know such things (like that female rulers in Poland are entitled "Kings", but if any nation is involved in diplomacy, and their diplomats are not idiot, they will refer to a ruler of one of the most powerful countries by the title that ruler is using in his or her signatures. Moreover, if misnamed, that ruler might feel offended and disrespected every time, he or her receives a wrongly addressed letter. And finally, I got tired of explaining why do my character signs herself as a "King" - and this is why I've placed this explanantion here (as if googling that would be so difficult, but I'm losing hopes about competence of some of the players every week...).

Of course we are replaying history, but we should base on historical knowledge, to be as accurate as possible and to keep the simulation going. Nobody tells who should ally with whom (basing on history), but placing coffee in vaticans dungeons is pretty like inventing your own lines of the Bible...

About James Bond: Please, explain to me, how local populace (peasants) even if dedicated to other country, would possibly intercept a letter, rewritten it (without knowing how to read or write, or without being rich enough to afford a piece of parchement and a bottle of ink), and then passed if over? Or are your peasants hidden under desks of Grand Prince of Rostov and King of Poland and read their minds, while they write their letters? And even if so, are your peasants rich enough to afford a horse to reach you as fast, as you claim? Or do they even give a crap on who is their sovereign, as as far as we know from history, common people do not really cared who was their king until they had safety and what to eat? First ever known national patriotic movements we have knowledge of are connected to Joan of Arc, a couple of hundreads year later. And it wasn't really an uprising, just a myth that rolled through France.

The usual way of writing letters for a king is to dictate the letter to someone. In Russia, the people writing the letters needed to be literate, and the greatest amount of literate people came from monasteries. Quite a lot of the people in monasteries were common folk, who were given education in order to help with the governing the country by writing letters, keeping accounts and so on while being low born enough not to threaten directly the nobles. Of course, after writing a letter it is completely possible to go home, write down what you have been dictated an hour ago and send it to somewhere.

As far as loyalties go, the rulers getting catholic support from outside and married to Catholics will not get you high on the loving list of a medieval Russian Slav population, which is an orthodox mix with elements of paganism. Also, the Slavs have the tendency to be against large countries and empires (like Poland), and only got around to the idea of making a country of their own a century ago.

At any rate, publishing a letter in the Diplomacy board (obviously trying to get a message across to everyone about how Poland want to punish people tampering with its puppets) and refusing the other side involved in a conflict to react is a bit too much tampering for me.

I dont think its relevant for historical knowledge to be constantly thrown about and used to belittle players who have less insight into these times than others. There are too many people in the game with little knowledge of events and life of these ages, but it shouldnt be something that should stand in the way of anyone enjoying the game, and i mean NOT ONE person to feel excluded, especially for reasons such as: because he/she doesnt know when coffe began to be brewed. - pathetic.

It seems this topic has only been created as a means to insult those mentioned with little understanding of the game. I personally couldnt care less if the ruler of poland is supposed to be a king or a queen, or if coffee is distributed in dungeons. The title of this topic is so inaccurate, i have decided to alter it slightly to better reflect what is being discussed here, for those players who have yet to suffer reading through this tedious UNhelpful topic.

but on the other hand agree that intercepting letters of correspondance between nations is a little unfair and detrimental to good RP-ing. - heres something that can be worked on! Well done in addressing an actual issue!

Maybe consider that some players join this game and join their respective nations to see their homelands do well in the game. They may rise to become king, queen or chancellors without having any knowledge of history or any Role-Playing experience. It is these people we need to be ENCOURAGING to RP, not put them down. Have you ever considered just sending PM to people who write or say something inappropriate? Or did you all just think that posting a public topic to try to humiliate them was the best solution to YOUR problems?

Some people need to perhaps stop with the arrogance, and get a little perspective on what is important in this game. Or should we start assigning a "historical knowledge test" to ensure that all new players to the game have sufficient understanding of these times to satisfy your pathetic, unimportant needs of how YOU want this game to be. ( "Sorry but due to your lack of knowledge on the history of coffee you have been unsuccessful in registering a profile with knights honor!" )

I for one am not here to do the RP moderators job and send PM's to players who post historically incorrect sentences. Sending an "OOC." helps correct them and anyone who read those RP's so they wont make the same mistakes.
Saying we did all this just to humiliate someone is wrong and unhelpful as you bring the unneeded tensions on. You say you are trying to find an actual problem to be solved, yet it is you who just insulted us and our struggle to improve this game.

I said...

And I stand by it. If you say this isn't a problem, fine... Next up are tanks

To the dirt barbarian, the goat-lover, the deep rabbit-whole inhabitant, the leader of wild tribe called Rostov,

we don’t know who is such stupid to serve such barbarian like you and write this letter for you …. Because for sure such dirt rabbit like you do not know civilized language. But we get it and believe me you will curse the day when you order to send this letter. We can forgive you lies about Polish Kingdom, we can forgive you, your un-provoked attack on our neighbors which are to us brothers, we can forgive you your audacity when you accuse Poland about things which never happen, but we polish knights will never forgive your insult which you sent to our Queen! Be prepared because we don’t know day and hour when it happen….. but it will happen for sure the day when you pay for your sins and your insults!

With disgust,

OH NO KING MARIA, one of your very own just referred to you as "Queen". What an outrage!!

Good come-back Ljud. Certainly out-witted me there! haha!!!!
The point i was trying to make, (which maybe you didnt quite grasp) was that coffee does not affect the game or how it functions, gunpowder and tanks do, im sure thats something we can agree on. Not everyone knows when coffee was brought into europe. And i dont think a lot of people care either. Hence why i asked you and your other little arrogant friends to get a grip and a little PERSPECTIVE.

Dondarion, you are obviously trying to prove yourself as some kind of protector of the weak, but you couldnt be less right. I haven't said a single word on demanding historical competence from every KH player. What I mean is that if someone wants to contribute to this game in a more serious way (as like being a king/queen/chancellor/whatever), he or she should prepare better before writing RP letters. If someone does not like to idea of roleplay, or learning history, he is not required to do RP posts or RP letters. We have all seen here some leaders that didn't enjoyed RP style, but they adjusted to other players and just stayed clear out of stuff they were not interested in.

But it DOES matter if one knows anything on history, of he or she wants to roleplay with other players, who do care. I am no worse player than any of you and I feel that my gameplay is spoiled when someone tries to godmode my scribes into his spies, or when someone is too stubborn to send a letter of apologize and instead invents "Cafe le Dungeon" somewhere in Papal States. It does make this game less fun for me, when someone says that my country wasn't on their radar screen or when someone makes fun of my characters rightful (and historically correct) title, just because they are too lazy or stubborn to check google or to listen to an explanation.

I say we should teach RP not only by example, but also by pointing out mistakes, godmodding and so on. Without that (as you call it, solving my problems), none of you would have seen the issue. When I started playing KH, players gave a lot of more attention to accurateness, roleplay, historical corectness. Now I feel more like playing some silly MMO, than one of few online RPGs that actually need you to Roleplay.

If someone just wants to see their country be powerful, without caring to enjoy the historical background and roleplay, maybe they should check if Civilization series doesn't suit them better, or Total War series, or Europa Universalis.
