Army must be highly precise structure,there can not be democracy.
Good commander should to know when to ask for advice of lower commanders,but decision on the end must be his.
Listen advices but believe in your feeling.
No matter how advice or advisor is good,if something in your gut dont let you at ease do as you feel.
Every time i didnt listen my finger spitz filling I made mistake.
Be firm but not too much.(That can depend on material of men you are accompany in your stuff,how firm you can be)
If you lead army,you lead,no one ,even a king should mix in decisions,your must be finnal word.
If your missunderstanding with some of lower commanders went to the range of dangering of war,change him.Again - there can not be democracy.
War is not for weak and ladies.
Sometimes one of your stuff will have important role in organization but on some way will be anti-talent for war,war is not game,refuse his proposals,but if you can endure some little mistake,do as he advices,even you know or feel it is wrong.
First you encourage him and his effort so other things he is good in will prosper and he will feel valuable.Take care of your stuff.Second,when mistake happen,he will see it and will be no so eager to keep with his advices.Thats double gain.
When country is in war and you are on commanding position you serve your country,everybody else serves army,even King,Diplomacy,all knights,everything must be service of the army,army asks,diplomacy and economy provide.
In peace diplomacy and king etc. are in front place,army is not,but when war starts,army took over and everything must be subordinated to army.
No diplomatic,economical or any personal interests are more important.
Bad commanders and bad nations will act in manner that one battle is not important,we can make it right another time,sometimes you can,but even you are much stronger never relax,do it hard and do it fast.Personnaly i despise that kind of thinkings
and way of war.
War is never a game,you must be responsible,that is not joy,that is job,if you did it well later you can enjoy.
My way of conducting the war as we see make pressure,in a first place on top commander,if any of numbered conditions above or beneath of this is not as should be,war will not be efficent.
Than you will be in problem.Probably best choise is same moment make condition to King - your way or no way.Loyalty to country and worriess about destiny of war when you see that
everything crumbling and feel of responsibilty most of people will keep to save what can be saved,but it is mistake,no one can fight enemy and worry of internal problems,pressure,fury ,anger ,resignation will became dominant and you will loose interest
and will make mistakes.
Dont allow that and dont spend yourself that way,and last thing - dont jeopardise your reputation because of that.I made all of above mistakes.
Crucial thing is to have one man beside you,one commander who you ranked and value more than others and you believe in.I have that luck that I had Vukodav.
Vojvoda Vukodav is great worker,provide me and stuff with various informations.Some kind of them I dont take too important,because of my nature of war,but every commander is lucky if have someone with that kind of info so can choose.
To have a choise is good.
Other exellent thing was that Vukodav was attack kind of Vojvode,he liked big groups and strike,by my opinion often that ideas were to risky,consider sometimes too much on luck,
thats because why he is optimistic man.
I like defense,i like to be outnumbered,I like the challenge.As i previous said I dont find value in fight with weaker enemy whats allowing to make mistakes.Blah!
So we are slightly different in aproach,but important thing is - he is charger I am calculated but both of us are -AGGRESSIVE!
So we are good to work in pair,to border our ways of conduct.Also he is great person,strong mind but without any personal vanity.It is easy to work with him.
Good thing what most commanders dont like is to have smaller groups,but that is only if you can organize it,to have stuff which will be efficient,also thats one more reason is why discipline has to be tight and firm.
That is a thing what we must upgrade in Serbian army,it is good,but I dont like good i want exellent.It can be done.
When you have smaller groups with efficent organisations you have much more choise.
When you dont know what to do - move! it is always better than stand on same place.make calculation for enemy complicated.
Alway ,send little raid companies to attack some parts of battlefield,make them strong enough to overcome weeker enemy units.Chances are not big,but it make preassure to enemy command,always to have some little problem which has to be taken in calculation.
Your raid units must not be with stronger knight and keep them in small numbers so you dont risk your main force.
So even you are in retreat,try to sting,when you are weeker and outnumbered dont allow to be in group where enemy can hit you and finish with you fast.
Thing which should be accomplished in army is to change composition of units but leave them same name and try that to use against enemy,once unit was weak and suddenly is strong and oppsite.Hard to achieve but extremly efficent.
Know your enemy,for example,any Serbian half cautious commander can easy deal with Croats,we know them,primitive,poltroonic kind of people.
Also their mentality will pressume that enemy is just like them.When fight with them feed their small minds ,keep them in that believe.
They and their allies thought especially in first years of war that Derg is hot headed savage who will storm to free his countrymen,and will bully his soldiers,will grab command and will not listen.
O boy they learned it hard way,ha!
Comandders are live people,every group of people have certain mentality and in extreme situations,like war is it will be stronger - use it agains them,find a weak spots.
For any Serbian commander is much easier to fight against croats,italian,papals etc. than against some army when commander is from asia etc.
So always try to know your enemy.
There is no ally worthier than your own people.
Mercenaries are usseless.Who call themself like mercenary and selling yourself,can not be trusted,money have no colour,mercenaries have no real integrity.
Trust only to your kind,no ally or mercenary can be trusted us your people.
If allies are on your land,they must took orders from your stuff.When you are ally on thier lands it is honest to do as they told.
Again - there can not be democracy,you command allies listen.
Oppossite aliance has that problem ,which later occur unfortunatly in Serbain Empire ranks that to many cooks spoil the lunch,and to not mentions of quality of Serbian allies and so called allies and enemy side,whic by ny opinion was far better.
We have not major issuess when majority of enemy generals deside,small mind is easy to read,no matter their strenght and numbers,croats are usseless,but sometimes they had exellent moves and i felt some other fingers in their moves,someone much better.
If allies make problems ask from your diplomacy to take care of it.It is better that you dont have allies than have allies whom you can not rely.
When you have to lean on allies is always bad thing but some of them can be good, like Bavarians were big part of war.
Remember good help and treasure it but also dont ever forget bad..and get payed when time is right.
With some corrections our Serbian army surelly can be the best army on the world,we are imaginative people,stubornn on the other side,
and our enemies must not push us to the end,then we are united,no matter our fierce character which brings us in some internal disagreements lets say.
When we are in just little bit position then enemy can take advantage of that our part of character,but if we are pushed to the wall,then enemy will have problem.
So dear enemies,look and see we will come for your heads,no matter when,we can be defeated only if we are destroyed and erased.
